Elijah plays a hobbit named Frodo Baggins, the main character from LOTR. Frodo is one of the best heroes ever since he must save the world and he's only a hobbit. Hobbits are little folk, half our size, about three feet to four feet tall. They live in the Shire, the northwest part of Middle-earth. Frodo lives in Hobbiton at Bag End, a place he inherited from his relative Bilbo Baggins. His gardener and best friend Sam goes on the dangerous journey along with his friends Merry and Pippin. Frodo's friendship with the wizard Gandalf helps him throughout the story along with the friends he made from the fellowship.
Hobbits were known as being non-adventurous, folk that didn't wander out of their homeland and gossiped about eachother alot. They knew little of the outside world and of adventures. However, the four hobbits in LotR go through dramatic character development. In the beginning the are timid and naive but throughout their journey they became brave, determined fighters and learn much about the world they live in; the people, creatures, places, and enemies. They make new friendships and accomplish deeds they thought was impossible. These people are small but should not be underestimated.
Elijah, as Frodo, had to appear as a hobbit. So by using cool camera effects, it appears that Elijah is only 3 feet tall. Also, since hobbits have rather large hairy feet, he had to walk around in fake feet. Elijah also wore a wig to make his "hobbit hair" look authentic. Hobbits wear leg pants and go shoeless, which is what Elijah and the other hobbits had to do. Frodo carries with him his sword Sting and chain mail given to him by Bilbo. As for getting the role of the hero hobbit Frodo, it happened on the set of The Faculty. Elijah seemed perfect for the role of Frodo. He even went to a costume store and "got knee pants", as Elijah put it. Elijah and the other 3 hobbits became such great friends during the filming that they all got matching tattoos, Elvish for nine, along with the whole fellowship.
